Read the light before the label
A window’s direction, nearby buildings and the distance from the glass change the light available to a plant. Bright indirect light is a well-lit position without intense direct sun on the leaves. Low light still means some usable light; a dark interior corner may need a grow light.
Buy for your real care routine
Choose plants whose moisture needs match how often you naturally check them. A plant in a small pot or a warm room may dry faster than the same species elsewhere. Treat “weekly check” as a reminder to inspect the soil, not an instruction to water automatically.
Inspect the plant before buying
Check both sides of the leaves, the soil surface and the drainage holes. Look for pests, persistently soggy mix and damaged roots. Confirm the botanical name, mature size and any pet concerns before paying. This tool suggests suitable types; it does not show a nursery’s live stock.
